OnePlus strikes right where the heart is with a brand new Diwali campaign

OnePlus, a global mobile technology startup with presence in over 35 countries, today released a short film titled "The Journey" to celebrate the festive spirit of Diwali.  

Elaborating on the emotion behind the film, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager – India, OnePlus explains, "This Diwali, we are happy to connect with our community in a refreshing way. OnePlus has always looked at innovative ways to connect with the community. This festive season, we decided to take the road less travelled and created a short film for our fans which is a first for OnePlus in India."

Diwali is the time when people get together with their families and consider it an auspicious time for new beginnings. Emotions run high in Indian households during Diwali and this video takes those emotions to the next level. That was the thought when OnePlus started out and weaved a story around it. The emotions have been portrayed very beautifully and the storyline is such that every single person watching the video can relate to it. It’s a story we all have been a part of at some stage or the other and resonates with the team's real life experiences.  

Vinay Jaiswal, Director, added, ‘Digital platforms are blurring the lines between cinema and advertising. You have to make your content matter in this age because the viewer is looking for a story that goes beyond just brand offering. With this film, I think we have managed to seamlessly integrate both. The idea was to create a film that makes you smile, reminds you what Diwali as a festival is all about, and I think we have achieved that in a simple, yet effective manner.’

Speaking about his experience, Amit Sadh said, ‘Shooting this film has been a fantastic experience. What sets this apart from a lot of other films out there is its simplicity. It is a film with a big heart and I believe audiences will be able to connect to the emotions that run high in Indian households, especially during festivals. The characters are very relatable and the story will leave you with a smile on your face.’

The film narrates the story of Rohit (the central character played by actor Amit Sadh), who is all set to spend Diwali with his girlfriend’s family, who he is about to meet for the first time. As the story unwinds, Rohit is seen reaching the bus stand only to find his phone low on charge. He reaches out to a paanwala to help him charge his phone – the OnePlus 3 - using the proprietary Dash Charging technology while waiting for his bus to arrive. Thanks to Dash Charge, Rohit's phone is able to get a day's power in half an hour. Rohit resumes his journey and as the bus winds through the scenic roads of Ladakh towards his final destination, Rohit witnesses a heartwarming scene that changes his mind and sets him towards another destination. The film ends with a surprise element.
