TV this week: Star Plus and SAB scale greater heights

The New Year saw Star Plus scaling even greater heights to touch a new high in week 1 of TAM 2014. To Big Star Entertainment Awards aired on the channel on New Year’s eve goes the credit of being the highest rated awards show thus contributing to the upward trend in the channel’s ratings. The show garnered 12,369 TVTs. Zee TV and SAB have gained viewership this week. The former added a viewership of 18 million to its GVT while the latter ratings escalated by 31 million to touch its highest ratings in Week 1 of TAM 2014.  With the curtains coming down on the most watched show Bigg Boss 7, Colors lost viewership this week. While Life OK lost viewership marginally, Sony Entertainment ratings plummeted as per data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 1, 2014 ( December 29 – January 4 ) for CS 4+, HSM markets.

Following are the scores of the Hindi GECs for week 1, 2014 with previous week’s figures in the brackets:

A steady rise in viewership has led Star Plus the leader among the GECs to garner 647,066 GVTs, (605,514) with a relative share of 25.19% (24.34%).
Colors at no. 2 witnessed a downslide in viewership which has led the channel this week to record 522,158 GVTs (527,226)   and a relative share of 20.33% (21.16%).

Zee TV at no. 3 gained viewership this week and recorded 449,211 GVTs (430,836) with a relative share of   17.48% (17.31%).

SAB TV now at no. 4 notched up with a huge leap in its ratings touching a record score of 360,843 GVTs (330,358) with a relative share of 14.06% (13.25%).
Life OK now in the 5th place has recorded a marginal decrease to score a gross TVT of 323,456 million against last week’s GVT of 323,589 million. The channel’s relative share was at   12.58% (13.01%).

Meanwhile Sony ratings have tumbled once again in week 1 of TAM 2014, thus recording 266,161 GVTs (271,852). The channel remains fixed at the 6th spot and indicates a relative share of 10.36% (10.92%).

Sahara One registering a slight increase has recorded 36,162 GVTs (34,888) in week 1, 2014 but continues to remain at the bottom of the chart. 
On Star Plus the New Year Eve entertainer Big Star Entertainment Awards grabbed most eyeballs this week as it recorded 12,369  TVTs. Nach Baliye 6 viewership dipped this week as the show registered 3,523 TVTs (3,653) and Mahabharat telecast from Monday through Friday witnessed a decline in viewership as it  recorded  6,811 TVTs (7,026) .

Popular show Comedy Nights with Kapil on Colors that never fails to leave audiences in splits has witnessed an increase in viewership this week and recorded 8,973 TVTs (8,772).  The two new fiction series on the channel have reported a good start. While Beintehaa reported 2,964 TVTs, Rangrasiya recorded 3,199 TVTs in week 1, 2014.

Among the most watched shows on Zee TV Bha se Bhade: (Sat-Sun) saw a dip in viewership and registered 1,534 TVTs (1,793). Dance India Dance 4 registered 4,410 TVTs (4,309) on Saturday and   3,687 TVTs (4,844) on Sunday.  Doli Armaanon Ki ‘Shaadi’ special on the channel scored 2,753 TVTs.                                          

Meanwhile the new offerings on Sony TV viz. Main Na Bhulungi has lost viewership and recorded 884 TVTs (1,144) and Ekk Nayi Pehchaan has recorded 1,965 TVTs (1,900) . Talent show Boogie Woogie Kids Championship (Sat-Sun) on Sony Entertainment Television has registered decreased viewership in its fourth week as the show recorded 2,488 TVTs (2,957).

Most of the movie channels witnessed a marked improvement in the new year as is evident with the ratings given below:

Zee Cinema saw a dip in viewership thus registering 200, 662 GVTs (211,750), Star Gold on the other hand notched up to record 195,587 GVTs (191,863). Ratings of Movies OK took a huge jump as the channel recorded 143,920 GVTs (123,375). In contrast to last weeks’ ratings, movie channel &pictures notched up to garner 91,406 GVTs (76,440) for the channel. Zee Anmol ratings saw much improvement this week as it recorded 71,855 GVTs (62,566) while Max too followed suit and registered 221,690 GVTs (212,954) and channel Rishtey registered an increase in viewership with 46,501 GVTs (23,030)   as per data recorded for movie channels in week 1 of TAM 2014.
