Discovery to mark the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination

To mark the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination, Discovery Channel features special programmes offering new investigative reports and a fresh perspective surrounding the mystery of his death.

On Friday, November 22nd, 2013, watch the special programme on John F. Kennedy from 8PM to 9PM, only on Discovery Channel.

Starting at 5PM, the narrative will revolve around the President’s most powerful advisor and closest confidant – the White House chief of staff – in THE PRESIDENT’S GATEKEEPERS. At 7PM, viewers will witness multiple accounts of Kennedy’s assassination in JFK: THE LOST TAPES and at 8PM, CAPTURING OSWALD will reveal the brilliant police work behind the capture of assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Announcing the line-up, Rahul Johri, Senior Vice President and General Manager - South Asia and Head of Revenue, Pan-Regional Ad Sales and Southeast Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said, “With these three special premieres, Discovery Channel continues its promise to bring for its Indian viewers subjects of deep interest and worldwide relevance.”

The White House chief of staff shapes the President’s agenda, turns policies into reality and passes a judgment on the President’s noblest ideas and riskiest schemes. THE PRESIDENT’S GATEKEEPERS explores the fascinating and untold story of this unique fraternity and the Presidents they serve. Spanning a jaw-dropping 50 years and 9 administrations, the programme will pull back the curtains on the inner workings of the Oval Office. Viewers will discover the secret aftermath of Watergate – a secret that nearly derailed Dick Cheney’s career – and a crisis, according to George W. Bush’s chief Joshua Bolten, that was more frightening than the attacks of 9/11. The programme will also reveal the unexpected threat on the day of Obama’s inauguration, and what led Obama’s chief Bill Daley to fear that the Osama Bin Laden Mission was in jeopardy.

At 7PM, JFK: THE LOST TAPES will rewind the clock to November 22nd, 1963, to the day history changed forever. Uncovering newly released government tapes that offer unique insight into Kennedy’s assassination, the programme will tell of a government unable to keep pace with an international tragedy. Combining audio recordings from the Dallas Police Force and testimonies of reporters present on the day - the programme is a riveting, behind-the-scenes portrayal of President John F. Kennedy’s final good-bye.

A natural succession, CAPTURING OSWALD at 8PM, investigates the assassination through the eyes of the men who caught Lee Harvey Oswald - the officers of the Dallas Police Department. An undertaking like never before, the programme offers a minute-by-minute playback of the day’s events leading up to the capture. How did the Dallas police offers arrest President Kennedy’s suspected killer within 90 minutes? What caused the death of a U.S. President, a cop, and the suspect within 48 hours? For the first time ever, members of the police force will break their silence and take viewers on the ground, through the streets of Dallas, and inside the greatest manhunt in American History.
