Spirit W | My work speaks about me: Leo Burnett's Ravpreet Ganesh

Do women have an edge over men, "All are equal I guess; some people are smarter and some are not, that's the way the cookie crumbles, but I must say women are more passionate in their approach to work and hence seemingly have an edge" says Ravpreet Ganesh, Business Unit Head, Leo Burnett, Delhi.

Week after week Adgully has come-up with the stories of women achievers from the advertising world. Indian women are making their presence felt globally, they not only are successful and achievers in their profession, but are doing a wonderful job striking a balance between their home and career. This week Adgully traces the story of another young and successful advertising star Ravpreet Ganesh who steers the business of Leo Burnett at their Delhi office.

Adgully is always inquisitive to ask all the young women from the advertising business as to how they got into the advertising world and Ganesh was quick to respond and says "Advertising career happened by accident. Looking back, I can't believe¦ I wanted to be a neurosurgeon but destiny had other plans for me . From zoology major to a business management course, then Brand management was the fascination and fashionable thing those days and I was lucky to get a break with Y&R Delhi under Sandeep Goyal". It was a roller-coaster ride Ganesh explains "Working days and nights together (did not anticipate this aspect of advertising business) on new business pitches and worked on national roll-out of Airtel with some of the most astute minds in the business on both client and agency side".

Its natural for all of us to get inspired or at least have few names who inspires us so is there a leader who inspires Ganesh, she says "None in the formative years. However, in the last ten years my spiritual Gurus, Renoo Nirula and Nalin Nirula do not cease to inspire me every time I meet them or even talk to them¦ The balancing act of work, home, family, material pursuits combined with spiritual connectivity is a heady mix and to manage all these in a 24 hour format is an art which I am still learning", Ganesh further adds "the most names who aspire me would be from our mythology/ history whose single minded passion is always an eye-opener be it Jhansi ki Rani or Meera".

After spending some of the beautiful years in advertising, surely Ganesh too must have some list of work or efforts which she is proud of and she adds "My high comes from the brands that I work on. My brands are like my babies, I nurture them, give them all I have and for me the biggest joy is to see them grow and flourish. Whether it was interacting with Rehman (AR Rehman) to create the signature tune for Airtel or launching the new architecture of Marlboro to launching a special edition pack of Grey Goose...I take pride in every single bit that I work on. Every time I work on a new phone launch for Samsung and then I see youngsters carrying latest Samsung handset, I know that my brand is healthy and the work is connecting with consumers".

Adgully tries to probe and get her take on if media industry can improve upon some areas and Ganesh says "I guess there is always a scope for improvement all the time in every industry".

Will she suggest changes in the way she is being perceived by her peers or senior associates, Ganesh says "I am what I am and I will always do what I think is right for the client. My work/clients always speak for me. Rest I don't care. I am answerable only to myself", she smiles.
