OTT takes new turn towards Love Genre to enthral more eyeballs

The OTT (over-the-top) space has been gaining rapid momentum and the entry of new players has intensified the competition. With this, OTT players are now seeing an increase in viewership and subscriptions. 

Given the good traction for original content on the OTT platform, there are more frequent new releases seen especially in the month of March. The shows are increasingly spanning diverse genres – thriller, romance, comedy, drama, action and even food-related shows.

Hear Me. Love Me.

Amazon Prime Video’s first ever original reality show – Hear Me. Love Me. is purely based on the concept of blind dating. The show was originally devised by FremantleMedia’s Israeli production company Abot Hameiri. With this latest offering, actress Shilpa Shetty has forayed into digital world as the host of the show. The show combines modern day technology with the rules of old world romance to uncover the perfect recipe for love. The format takes a single young woman looking for love and sets her up on 3 dates in a single day.

Adulting

Dice Media, the web series channel of Pocket Aces has proudly its first web series for 2018, ‘Adulting’ which is already available on Facebook and YouTube. “Adulting” captures the journey and experiences of young women in today’s urban India. The show gives us all a window into the experience of being a two twenty-something woman in today’s urban India. It deals with existential as well as mundane issues faced by young people: managing money, social media validation, parental expectations, career conundrums and more.

Punnch Beat

ALTBalaji that has recently completed its one year has announced slew of web series for the viewers. Out of which one of the most promising and fascinating series seems to be Punnch Beat which stares Priyank Sharma, Siddharth Sharma, Harshita Gaur. This teenage high-school drama set in the backdrop of a boarding school named Rosewood High. The show is co-produced by Vikas Gupta's Lost Boy Productions and Ekta Kapoor.

The Re-union

Zoom styled by Myntra has made a transition from being just a TV channel to a platform agnostic entertainment destination with the launch of web series. With an improved style quotient inspired by Myntra and engaging storytelling, infused with a whole new look the channel has launched ‘The Reunion’. 'The Reunion' is a story about four BFFs who meet after a long time. The series will bring back bubbling memories from your own past and also offer engaging twists and turns that you least expect, episode after episode.

Kaushiki

Viu has completed 2 years in India last month. Viu’s global strategy is to not only deliver local content, but also to bring international formats and tailor them to be locally relevant, and this is no different in India. 

Produced by Big Synergy, the series chronicles the story of five friends and the complexities of their friendships, which are based on shocking wrongdoings. The show features Omkar Kapoor, Sayani Gupta, Rannvijay Singha, Mansi Scott, Namit Das, Rajeev Siddhartha and Shruti Shrivastava amongst others.

Table No 5

Written by OMG - Oh My God fame Bhavesh Mandalia, Table No 5 is a thriller that takes you down a different storyline in each episode and boasts of versatile actors such as Swanand Kirkire, Namit Das and Pitobash Tripathy.

Table No 5 – the protagonist of the series – is witness to six seemingly harmless conversations over the episodes. The unexpected characters, their bizarre situations and their inexplicable endings – these are sure to leave you baffled at the end of each series.
