IRS Q1 2011: Hindi monthlies report growth, English and Tamil weeklies see decline

The IRS Q1 data was released on 17th June 2011 which reported a sharp decline in readership numbers for a lot of language weeklies and monthlies.

The English weekly category has reported a readership of 7,117,000 readers and has lost around 258,000 readers. India Today leads the pack with a total readership of 4,677,000. Outlook is at number two position with a total readership of 1,203,000. Amongst the monthlies Reader's Digest has reported 2,849,000 readers.

The Hindi monthly category has total readership of 21,544,000. Pratiyogita Darpan has grown with a total readership of 4,697,000 and has retained its number one spot. Meri Saheli (4.033,000), Grehlakshmi (3,788,000) and Cricket Samrat (3,588,000) by adding more readers have maintained its second, third and fourth position respectively.

In the Bengali monthly category Sukhi Grihakon is the number one publication with a reduced total readership of 909,000. The category has reported a total readership of 3,272,000.

The Malayalam weekly category has a total readership of 6,783,000 while On the other hand the monthlies have total readership of 5,317,000. Mathrubhumi Arogya Masika is the number one monthly with a reduced total readership of 2,128,000.

The Marathi weeklies put up decent show. Saptahik Sakal is the number one weekly and has a total readership 488,000.

Tamil weekly category has reported around 9,634,000 readers. Kumudam (4,943,000), Kungumam (3,977,000) and Ananda Vikatan (3,620,000) all have seen a decline but have maintained their second, third and fourth position respectively. | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
