FICCI condoles the demise of film maker Rituparno Ghosh

In a press statement to the media FICCI says:

FICCI deeply mourns the passing away of renowned and brilliant Bengali film-maker and National Award-winner, Rituparno Ghosh. The FICCI Media and entertainment committee, of which Rituparno was a valued member in the East, is in a state of shock and grappling with the reality of this gaping void left by his untimely death. Rituparno, with his award-winning, internationally-acclaimed and pioneering body of work, his sensitive cinematic portrayals and his sharp intellect, has had an indelible impact on Indian cinema and the industry and the film fraternity will keenly feel the absence of this stalwart.

He was at the forefront of FICCI’s movement to bring national focus to regional cinema --- an integral part of the FICCI Media and Entertainment Business Conclave-East, convened and led by Mr Prosenjit Chatterjee and Mr Goutam Ghose. He felt strongly for Indian cinema and worked with FICCI to make possible an even more enabling environment for the growth of quality Bengali cinema, a cause which he espoused and spoke passionately for.

At this hour of crisis and sorrow, FICCI and the entire industry’s prayers are with Rituparno’s family and loved ones, to help them tide over this painful loss. FICCI will continue to carry forward his cherished hope of facilitating the growth of his art form - Bengali cinema.
