Shastri Sisters and Sasural Simar Ka cast celebrate Mata Ki Chowki

Taking women empowerment a notch higher, Shastri Sisters along with Roli, Mataji and Manoranjan of Sasural Simar Ka, shot for a Maha-Sangam episode which focused on the concept of women standing up for their rights. While the episode highlights the excitement surrounding the Mata Ki Chowki puja, the third sister Devyani (Sonal Vengurlekar) is seen caught in the middle of a helpless situation when Roli (Avika Gor) comes to her rescue.

At the receiving end of some lewd crank calls, Devyani finds herself unable to understand how to tackle the situation at hand. With her sister Anushka’s (Ishita Ganguly) help, the girls realize that Neel (Sumit Bhardwaj), their arch nemesis, and his group of friends have been instrumental in the harassment. To combat the embarrassment that they have been experiencing, the girls come forth during the Mata Ki Chowki and reveal Neel’s dastardly acts in front of all the guests and relatives. They reveal Neel and his gang of friends have been the conspirators who have been harassing the girls through remarks that must not be spoken to any self-respecting girl. To support the spirit of womanhood and honesty, Roli (Avika Gor)stands tall with the girls and speaks strongly about the action taken by them.

Speaking about her stand on women empowerment, Sonal Vengurlekar, who essays the role of Devyani, says, “I am a feminist by body, mind and soul. Just like my character Devyani, I am a thorough believer and endorser of justice even in my real life. The scene was one of my favourite scenes because my intensity in the scene stemmed from my beliefs in my personal life too.”

Speaking about her participation in the Shastri Sisters-Sasural Simar Ka Maha-sangam episode, Roli aka Avika Gor commented about the scene saying that, “Shastri Sisters is again a women oriented show and I’m a firm believer in women empowerment. In today’s day and age it is necessary for the society to know that a girl is no less than a boy and that she can also soar high with her determination and will power. Shows like these will spread awareness in the society. Attending the mata ki chowki  was a memorable moment for me as well as meeting the Shastri Sisters. We bonded very well as there isn’t much of a age difference between us. We shared our hobbies, the kind of movies we like to watch, our love for dance and the other ways in which we enjoy life. This integration reminded me of all the promotional activities we used to do for Balika Vadhu. It made me walk down the memory lane and reminisce the great journey I have had with COLORS, and it continues with Sasural Simar Ka.”

Ishita Ganguly, playing the role of Anushka, says, “Why does a girl always have to prove her character to the public? We live in the 21st century and everyone, regardless of gender must be treated equally. I thoroughly enjoyed enacting the scene. Having Avika on our sets was also a great experience because I have watched her since her Anandi days and have always loved her work.”
