"It's an important and challenging task to sustain in the industry" says Actor Chandan K Anand

Be it Bollywood or television, audiences will agree that villains have always stolen the limelight and have added spice to the story. This fits the bill where handsome and talented Chandan K Anand is concerned. He is now all set to win over the hearts of his audiences with his new role in ‘Adventures of Hatim’ soon to be aired on Life OK.  In this new offering from the makers of Mahadev he will be seen portraying the role of Zargham, the main antagonist.

His presence in the industry spans almost a decade. His journey took off when he joined Act One Theatre Group and Asmita Theatre Group. The theatre actor’s foray into television began with his first role in UTV’s show Meher as Ali, a negative character. This was followed by Soni Mahiwal for Doordarshan (UTV Productions), Bhabhi  on Star Plus and is known for his role of the notorious character Omi Bhaiyya in Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam on  Colors. He has also been visible on television commercials such as Parle Monaco, Pepsi, LG Mobile, Rajnigandha Pan masala, Onida, Reliance mobile, KFC Chicken among others.

In an exclusive interaction with Adgully, Chandan   briefed us about the character he’s playing in Adventures of Hatim, his experience in the industry, his interests and more.

Speaking about his character in the show, he said, “The role which I am playing is of Zargham, who has conquered the supreme powers by answering seven questions. He has chosen the path of evil and thus misuses his powers.  All this changes when Hatim is born.  When he too is able to answer all the seven questions he achieves supreme powers but utilizes them for a good cause and eventually kills Zargham.”

Sharing about his new role and how it materialized he said, “The show was offered to me by Nikhil Sinha with whom I have worked earlier and hence we know each other well . In February this year he offered me this role saying that Zargham would be the biggest villain that television has experienced so far. I am playing the role of a handsome villain, who is a hero right up to the time when the real hero comes and kills him. ”

Apart from television shows and ad commercials, Chandan’s interest lies in feature films which give him an opportunity to play different characters. His career in television took off playing a negative character and he intends to continue doing so.

“I have worked in Hindi feature films with prominent directors like Anurag Basu, Shoojit Sarcar, Imtiaz Ali, Prasoon Pandey and Anil Sharma. Although I’ve done negative characters on television and people appreciate me for that, my preference is for feature films as I want to experience different roles and moreover it is the best platform,” he says.

He is also known for his roles in Le Le Meri Jaan by Prayas Gupta, Remember a Day by Poojan Shah, Kaafila and Aloo Chaat by Robby Grewal.
Becoming an actor was never on his priority list but he was destined to be one. “I wanted to become a chef and I also worked in the tourism industry and did my diploma in tourism management since my family too is into tourism business. My career in acting clicked when I became part of the Asmita theatre group and started doing theatre there.”

On asking him about his future plans he said, “Television is an industry which restricts you, and it’s an important and challenging task to sustain in the industry. As I love doing feature films I plan to work in a few more and one of them is the upcoming film Budget Trip. The best part about Hatim is that it is a bi-weekly show and hence allows us to concentrate on other assignments too.”

The cast of this upcoming magnum-opus fantasy based show includes Rajbeer Singh as Hatim, Pooja Banerjee, Krishna Singh Bisht who was last seen in Ramleela, Sacheen Tyagi, Pracheen Chauhan and others. The show also marks the comeback of seasoned actors like Dolly Sohi, Nausheen Ali Sardar, Khalid Siddiqui and many more.

‘Adventures of Hatim’ produced by Nikhil Sinha's Triangle Films Company goes live on 28th December at 8 PM on Life OK.
