Exclusive | Sony's tryst with crime

The first week of 2015 has seen a healthy growth for the Hindi GEC’s. Most of the channels are trying to bring in innovative content for their audiences this year.

As the GEC’s line up their shows for the New Year, most of them are working on revamping their weekly shows and strengthening their weekend slots. Sony Entertainment is one of them which are strengthening its weekend slot by bringing back its 90’s courtroom drama, “Bhanwar – Kalyug Ki Hairatangez Kahaniyaa.”

This time the show has got cases that will keep the audience astonished.  The show intends to compel the society to wake up to the fact that there is justice available for every crime committed under the Indian Penal Code.

Adgully caught up with Ajay Bhalwankar – Chief Creative Director, Sony Entertainment Television to know more about the comeback of this show.

About the show:

As the tagline for the show says ‘Kalyug Ki Hairatangez Kahaniyaa’ clearly articulates, this distinctive series is inspired by the twists and turns of true events, which always reminds us that ‘truth is always stranger than fiction’. Presented in a unique style the show promises to raise the bench mark of crime shows on Indian Television.

Comeback Mode:

There is no show yet which explains the drama that happens in the courtrooms and we are going to be showing what is going to be happening in the court rooms in various interesting stories that we are going to show.

Crime Packed Weekend:

Apart from Bhanwar, in the weekend slot we've got Crime Patrol, CID and Aadalat. We also have stories which are going to be different than what is shown in CID and on Crime Patrol. We are going to be uncovering our understanding of crime in a very different manner altogether. Primarily it’s more about how crime is discovered. There are very different aspects of crime, so far we’ve seen crime in altered ways and there will be different ways in which we will be showcasing it.

The show will be starting from 10th January, and will be a weekend show in the 9pm slot. It will be replacing crime petrol which is currently being showed twice, one at 9pm and at 11pm. So in the 9pm slot we will be showing Bhanwar. It will be a one hour slot. The repeat telecasts are yet to be decided. Of course they will be sometime during the week.
