BEING WOMEN | It is meaningless to attribute one single day for women: MEC's Geetha Shiv

The Women's rights have made rapid strides since the first International Women's Day in 1911. It's safe to say that the world has become a better place to live now than it was say 100 years ago.

But there still a lot left to be desired.

Ask Geetha Shiv, MEC National Director, Analystics and Insight, and she would tell you that it's meaningless to dedicate just one day for women.

"Though it is supposed to be a day to celebrate struggles and achievements of women but I personally feel that it is meaningless to attribute one single day for it," she explains.

"It's nice to see that there is a day that is recognized for us and how woman feel. But I think woman should be recognized every day," says Geetha who started her career as a media planner with McCann Erickson.

"The day does help highlight some inspiring achievements made by women in various fields as lot of it gets reported by press on women's day, which makes it a good read," she adds.

Working in an industry that can quite demanding to say the least, Geetha says women are better managers of daily chores as they are good at multitasking.

"One cannot say that women have the edge in the field as it depends on individuals, but I would like to add here that women are good at multitasking. It probably comes naturally as they have to manage both work and home at the same time," she explains.

So are there any challenges in the industry? "I am fortunate to be working in an industry where women are treated on par with men.

"I think women are quite well represented in our industry," she says.
