ABP News tops viewership charts on Gurmeet Ram Rahim sentencing day

There has been intense interest in the rape case against Dera chief and self styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insaan and the day of sentencing, August 28, 2017, saw people turning to news channels and social media to get the latest updates. There were several incidents of violence in Haryana, Punjab and pockets in Delhi following the guilty verdict against the Dera chief, who has been sentenced to 20 years in jail. 

News channels saw a spike in viewership as people followed the developments. ABP News emerged as the most watched TV news channel on August 28. Of the total audience watching news channels, 35 per cent of the audience watched ABP News between 2 pm and 6 pm; followed by Aaj Tak, which had 17 per cent share. All major programmes like ‘Sachi Ghatna’ and ‘Jan Man’ gathered maximum viewership.
