The news about News

For most of us, that sacred 20 minutes in the morning with our coffee/tea and our favourite newspaper is a ritual we cannot miss. When MTV Insights Studio asked the youth of today how they get their daily dose of news, we weren’t very surprised to find out that while the coffee or tea remained (maybe cold coffee or iced tea!), the paper that the hand held had been replaced by a digital device.

In fact, according to our study, the Digital Socialite, at www.mtvplay.in, consuming news online is even more popular than gaming online. A whopping 93% of the youth that MTV spoke to insisted that they read news online at least once a week, and of this, 65% claimed to read sports and world news online at least once a day- whether it’s through social media sources or news websites.

Even though these young folks admitted to reading the good ole’ newspaper and watching news channels, a big chunk told us that they use the web to get their daily dose of what’s happening in the world around them when they’re on the go. They felt that while traditional media had substance, new media had more character and more importantly, more room for interactivity.
