Star Plus names Gaurav Banerjee as GM!

Gaurav Banerjee, who headed the Content Strategy for Star India as the EVP, will now be escalated as the General Manager at Star Plus. Though official announcements will follow sometime soon, sources close to the development confirmed that Banerjee will be filling this position post the exit of Nachiket Pantvaidya in September 2013.

It may be recalled; Pantvaidya had called it quits at Star India and had gone on to join Multiscreen Media (Sony Entertainment) to hold the designation of the Business Head, MSM Motion Pictures, a division of MSM.

On completing his education from St. Stephen’s and MCRC Jamia, Banerjee joined Aaj Tak in 2000. He was an anchor for the war room that covered the Afghan war and elections. He then joined Star News (now ABP News) and anchored the 9pm News and was also the Executive Editor of the prime time news. Banerjee has been credited for the successful launch of Star Ananda and setting up Star’s regional channels, along with taking Star Jalsha to the top.

Banerjee joined Star Plus back in 2009 playing a pivotal role in shaping content around ‘Rishta wahi soch nayi’ theme. In his previous role (EVP, Content Strategy) Banerjee, in addition to Star plus, helped shape content for Life OK where he is responsible for big ticket shows like Mahadev, Diya aur Bati Hum and Sasural Genda Phool.
