Star India home to the Emmy Winners of 2017!

Hence, it does not come as a surprise that Star India is on the top of the Emmy winners list yet again this year as it goes on to become the only Indian English GEC with the largest number of award winning shows winning a stunning 146 nominations and 29 awards! The channel has successfully managed to bag recognition and receive its due credit in almost every genre – Drama, Mini-Series as well as Comedy.

The star studded limited series Big Little Lies swept the maximum awards in the Limited Series category and won a total of whopping 8 awards this year. The show managed to win the hearts of not only the viewers, but also of the Emmy jurors and bagged the ultimate title of ‘Outstanding Limited Series’! NicoleKidman won an award for ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie’ and Laura Dern won for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series Or Movie’ category! Apart from these, the show also won three awards at the Creative Arts Emmys Awards ceremony!       

The rib tickling political comedy Veep has done it again! The hilarious, tongue-in-cheek HBO series was showered with accolades and praises as it cracked its hat-trick with its third consecutive award under the ‘Outstanding Comedy Series category’, keeping up with the winning streak that it started in 2015.  The show's star, Louis-Dreyfus also took home her sixth consecutive win for her role as ex-president Selina Meyer, breaking her own record with the most a single performer has won for playing the same character to date!

The series that has previously been a Critics’s Choice Awards as well as Golden Globes favorite, Westworld, aced at the Emmys as well this year, taking home five Creative Art Emmy wins in its kitty. Jonathan Nolan’s science-fiction adventure, blew the minds of viewers and critics worldwide back in 2016 and was the most-watched first season of an HBO original series ever, trampling over even Game of Thrones in this regard! 

The multi-starrer family drama and heart wrenching This is Ushat premiered in late 2016, was also the highlight of the awards season with Sterling K Brown picking up a second Emmy win for his role on the show under the ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series’ category and Gerald McRaney picking up ‘Best Drama Guest Actor’ at the Creative Arts Emmys. Like at the Emmys, the series was also nominated under the Best TV Drama category at the Golden Globe Awards and has picked up a swarm of awards over the year for some of the most intense performances on television.

Beating Hollywood A-listers and fellow nominees like Benedict Cumberbatch, and Robert De Niro, Riz Ahmed took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Nasir Naz Khan in crime –drama series, The Night Of. This accolade marks the win of the first Asian man, to win an Emmy award for acting! The series also won 4 creative Emmys including; Outstanding Cinematography For A Limited Series Or Movie, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Limited Series Or Movie, Outstanding Sound Editing For A Limited Series, Movie Or Special and Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Limited Series Or Movie.

The channel is now all set to up its entertainment ante this year with the premiere of some of the most anticipated shows such as the season 2 of the much-awaited tear jerker ‘This Is Us, Season 4 of Viola Davis starrer How to Get Away with a Murder, Season 5 of the thriller television series The Blacklist and the fourth season of the musical entertainment Empire.
