Sanjay Sindhwani takes over as The Indian Express Digital CEO

Sanjay Sindhwani has taken over as the Chief Executive Officer of IE Online Media Services, the digital arm of The Indian Express Group.

A media industry veteran of over 25 years, Mr Sindhwani has spent 24 years of his 25-year career in the Times Group across print and digital platforms. His last assignment at Times Internet was as the business head of The Economic Times (Digital & Mobile) and ETPrime, the premium subscription service.

"Sanjay joins us at the beginning of a year when public trust in the news media has hit an all-time low and when recognized news media brands are often being baited and are getting caught picking political sides," said Anant Goenka, Executive Director, Indian Express Group in an email to employees.

"Sanjay shares my belief that our group has dramatically grown our footprint in a competitive environment because we have been true to our values of fairness and courage. We have chosen accuracy over speed not only in our coverage of politics but across every beat," he added.

Over the past seven years, IE Online Media Services has grown its reach from 2 million unique users per month to over 148 million unique users per month, across the world in six languages. The group includes a bouquet of websites that lead in their categories: indianexpress.comfinancialexpress.comjansatta.com andloksatta.com, as well as Indian Express digital editions in Bengali, Malayalam and Tamil, making it amongst the largest digital news companies across the globe.

"The Express Group is admired by the industry for its tremendous growth in a short span of time, and by its readers for its journalism and its values. I am looking forward to working with the talented team at the Express," Mr Sindhwani said.

Sindhwani will report to Indian Express Group CEO George Varghese.
