Prakash Javadekar is new Information & Broadcasting Minister

Prakash Keshav Javadekar has been appointed as Minister of Information and Broadcasting as well as Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in the Modi 2.0 Government that was sworn in yesterday (May 30, 2019).

Javadekar was Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forests and Climate Change in Modi Government's first term as well. It may be recalled that he had briefly held the I&B portfolio between May and November 2014.

The I&B portfolio was later held by Lt Col (Retd) Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod in Modi Government's first term, who took charge from Smriti Zubin Irani.

Javadekar has been a proponent of self-regulation in media and had said, “Institutions are important for the functioning of democracy and priorities would be worked out after due consultation with the stakeholders”.
