Offbeat: I always dreamt of being like Robin Hood- Rahul Namjoshi

In our constant endeavour to give our readers content that is a little ‘hatke’ from the trade media norm, Adgully has been coming out with Special sections like The W-Suite, Ad Land’s Young Guns, Spirit W and ‘Offbeat’.

Our newest offering, ‘Offbeat’, seeks to give a glimpse of the lesser known facets of our very well-known industry leaders. We present, in the industry leaders’ own words, an interesting read on areas that are not usually highlighted in regular media coverage – be it about their childhood days, secret skills that they possess, how they unwind from their hectic schedules, and much more.

Rahul Namjoshi is the Business Head MYFM - DB Corp Ltd. Earlier, he was Corporate Sales Head and has been elevated as Business Head after Bhatia’s movement into print Business.

1. How you were as a child and which childhood trait do you still possess?

I was always hyperactive and a playful child, who loved to take challenges. This is the trait I cherish and still try to continue developing. I love to take challenges and get out of my comfort zone; this keeps the excitement in life high and kills monotony.

  1. Which superhero did you look up to as a kid and why? Which superhero power you wish you possessed?

Phantom was someone I looked up to as a child. The Robin Hood of my time, he was something I always dreamt of being like. After all, doesn’t every child want to defeat the demons and help the good ones?

  1. A skill you possess that no one knows about?

I am a descent swimmer, and during school days have participated at National level.

  1. What would one find in your playlist?

It’s a mix of Zen sounds, Jagjit Singh gazals , old Hindi and Sufi music and the retro English songs.

  1. Your go-to activity to relax?

Spending time with my family is something I really look forward to. After a hectic routine, playing a sport with my children and wife helps me ease up the day’s tension.

  1. What is the greatest lesson that you have learnt from life so far?

There are so many great lessons we all learn from life but the one that has had a great impact in my life is don’t be afraid of taking calculated risk. After all, a smooth sea never makes a skilful sailor.

  1. A social cause that you are most passionate about?

The social cause closest to my heart is education for underprivileged children.

  1. What’s the one thing you would like to change about yourself?

I actually wouldn’t want to change anything, I feel an important part of personal development is accepting who you are and loving all aspects of yourself. I am my own competition and try to outdo myself every time. One thing I still feel I need to be is a much better listener.

  1. If not - current designation- what would you have been?

I am passionate about dressing and I love meeting people so if not here probably would have been into garment trading business.

  1. What are three apps on your mobile you couldn't live without?

Twitter, Spotify, Inshorts. Twitter keeps me updated with the happenings around the world, Inshorts tells me what’s happening in India currently and Spotify helps me relax and concentrate with its wonderful playlist and recommendations.

  1. What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?

Dunkirk, it’s an excellent movie, narrating an incident of how the commoners came to the rescue of 300,000 soldiers who were trapped, surrounded by the enemies and the sea. It’s a story of how you can find hope, and help, from the unlikeliest of the places.

  1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

I would love to live in New York; it is one of the most inspiring places on the planet.  Everywhere in that state you will see people constantly on a move, united despite being engrossed in their work. The diversity, the culture and knowledge that place provides is just so overwhelming.
