Manoj Kumar’s patriotic drama ‘Kranti’ on 12th November at 6:30 PM

Of all the legendary actors Hindi cinema has featured, Manoj Kumar commands a special respect for portraying nationalism in films like no one else. His string of patriotic characters not only elevated him as a front runner in actors but also conferred on him the title of Bharat Kumar. Zee Classic, with its brand promise of Woh Zamana Kare Deewana celebrates the legacy of the veteran actor with Manoj Kumar Film Festival. Under this, the channel airs one of his most celebrated films ‘Kranti’ for the first time ever on Saturday, 12th November at 6:30 PM.

Produced and directed by Manoj Kumar, the film boasts of an envious ensemble of Dilip Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Parveen Babi and Prem Chopra along with the director himself. The film is set in the pre-independence era, and narrates the story of fight for Independence from the British Raj. The film is about 4 youngsters Sanga (Dilip Kumar), Bharat (Manoj Kumar), Shakti (Shashi Kapoor) and Kareem (Shatrughan Sinha), hailing from different backgrounds, with a common motive to free India from the British rule. Touching upon the chord of patriotism, the film ran for 67 weeks in theatres and was declared a blockbuster. Marked as the costliest film at that point of time, Kranti went on to become the 2nd highest grossing film of 1981.

The Manoj Kumar Festival forms a part of channel’s new programming titled ‘Aaj Ka Classic’. Aaj Ka Classic dates back to the golden era of ‘Black and White’ that set the foundation of the Hindi film industry and will include masterpieces that will transport spectators back in time. ‘Shaandar Sixties’ will present movies of the 60s, a decade that defined adventurous plots, romantic themes and super hit songs with glamorous stars. ‘The 70’s Mix’, will showcase blockbusters from the 70s, an era that saw the emergence of action packed films and escapism. And, ‘Best of 80’s and 90’s’ will showcase two dynamic decades with a varied platter of films.
