Is it time to finally bid goodbye to Byomkesh Bakshi?

SVF's latest venture titled "Bidaay Byomkesh" (literal translation being "Goodbye Byomkesh") has been creating an intrigue among the audience since the release of its official teaser and poster revealing an aged Byomkesh Bakshi. Directed by Debaloy Bhattacharya, the role of the Satyanweshi will be essayed by Abir Chatterjee, known for portraying the sleuth in the last couple of Byomkesh films.

The theatrical trailer of Bidaay Byomkesh was launched today in front of the media with lead actors Abir Chatterjee, Sohini Sarkar, Bidipta Chakraborty in attendance along with Debaloy Bhattacharya himself, Arindam Sil, Rupankar Bagchi and others. The interesting aspect of the launch was the way the trailer was played, by the use of Siri who is also a part of the film. At the launch, Siri was asked to find out about Byomkesh Bakshi and the audience witnessed how she finally lands up to the trailer of Byomkesh Bakshi.

The trailer starts off showing 1932, the birth of a 'Satyanweshi' (literal translation being 'Truth Seeker') and names of a few Byomkesh stories by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay like 'Raakter Daag', 'Shajarur Kanta', 'Chiriyakhana', 'Banhi Patanga', 'Chorabali', etc ending with a Byomkesh Shomogro book lying open. Cut to 2018, a man enters a police station with a bloody knife claiming to have committed a murder. The inspectors call an aged Byomkesh Bakshi (Abir Chatterjee) up to tell him that the mysterious man is his son, DC Abhimanyu Bakshi (Joy Sengupta). Byomkesh and his daughter-in-law (Bidipta Dasgupta) rush to the station while being followed by paparazzi. The pain and anguish seem to be overburdening Byomkesh Bakshi, who does not know if he can save his son; this is understood because he keeps visualising his late best friend and partner, Ajit (Rahul Banerjee) and his late wife, Satyabati (Sohini Sarkar) who asks him "How will you save my khoka (son)?"

Thus, Byomkesh decides to seek help from his grandson, Satyaki Bakshi (also played by Abir Chatterjee). Will Satyaki be able to carry forward his grandfather's legacy? Or will Byomkesh have to work on his grey cells to save his son?
