How brands, TV channels and apps are celebrating Friendship Day

“A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still gently allows you to grow,” thus said William Shakespeare. Let’s tweak it a little for the brands of today: “A brand is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still gently allows itself to grow over you.”

When Joyce Clyde Hall, an American businessman and founder of Hallmark Cards, started Friendship Day in 1930, little did he know that his business strategy would create a marketing opportunity for so many brands.

A look at how various brands, TV channels and even apps are celebrating Friendship Day with an array of offers and campaigns.

Britannia
Britannia’s Bourbon, being rooted in friendship and recently having launched the Friendly Matches campaign with Mallika Dua and Abish Mathew, has launched a digital campaign in celebration of the annual occasion. With re-wrapped Friendly Matches videos and new fun GIFs, consumers can tag and share with friends in celebration.

Snapdeal
Snapdeal has launch its specially curated Friendship’s Day Store on its platform as a one-stop shop for users to pick gifts for their friends. The store offers a range of 10,000 products, which include friendship bands, artificial jewellery, speakers, gift cards, watches, wallets, cufflinks, make-up and personalised products.

Lay’s
Lay’s, the potato chip brand from PepsiCo, takes its proposition of ‘The Real Flavours of Life’ a step further with a new film on Friendship Day, called College Canteen + No Network = #RealFlavoursOfLife.

Caprese
To celebrate the bond of friendship, Caprese, the international high-fashion handbags brand, has launched a new digital campaign called #CapreseBFF, which culminates in contests through the entire week across all social media platforms to celebrate Friendships Day. The video showcases how friends motivate each other. The brand has also announced 3 interactive contests, where the participant and her friends can participate by tagging each other on very relatable situations from the video. The winners stand to win Caprese handbags.

Platinum Love Bands
This friendship day, Platinum Days of Love, seeks to remind people that one’s partner is not just the lover, but above everything, is a #FriendFirst. The campaign celebrates relationships that have stood the test of time on the foundation of long standing warmth and a strong friendship, with Platinum Love Bands serving as beautiful reminders that partners will always be #FriendsFirst.

Ceat Tyres
This Friendship Day, Ceat Tyres seeks to highlight that we all have different types of friends – some of them we love, while some of them we hate. The relationship between tyres and the road is similar. The idea behind the campaign is that Ceat personifies the different types of roads and their relationship with the tyres.

9X Jalwa/ 9XO and 9X Jhakaas
The channels from 9X Media are asking viewers to send special friendship messages to their loved ones. Celebrating ‘Chuddy Buddy’ friendships, 9X Jhakaas has created special animated characters. Popular friendship song, ‘Yaariyan – Classmates’ forms the soundtrack of this special video.
