Facebook reports 2 bn users; Q2 total revenues up 45% at $9.32 bn

Facebook has reported more than 2 billion users, including more than 1.3 billion people who use the platform every day, in its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2017. 

Facebook’s total revenues grew 45 per cent YoY in this period to $9.32 billion, while net income was up 71 per cent YoY at $3.89 billion. 

Mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 87 per cent of the advertising revenue for the second quarter of 2017, up from approximately 84 per cent of advertising revenue in the second quarter of 2016. Advertising revenues stood at $9.16 billion, registering a growth of 47 per cent. 

Daily active users were 1.32 billion on an average for June 2017, an increase of 17 per cent YoY. Monthly active users were 2.01 billion as of June 30, 2017, an increase of 17 per cent YoY. 

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Facebook, said, “I’m proud of the progress our community is making, and it comes with a responsibility to make sure we have the most positive impact on the world that we can. That’s why, last month, we updated Facebook’s mission to focus not just on connecting the world, but also bringing the world closer together.” 

Zuckerberg further said that Facebook has set a goal to help 1 billion people join groups that become a meaningful part of their lives both online and in the physical world. Last month, the platform had rolled out new tools to help people start and grow communities on Facebook. 

He added, “This quarter we also announced that more than 250 million people use Instagram Stories every day, and more than 250 million people use WhatsApp Status every day. We’re going to keep improving and giving you more ways to share.”
