Facebook Q4 revenues up 30.4%, buoyed by mobile advertising revenues

Emerging from the data privacy outrage that have plagued Facebook for most of 2018, the social media giant has reported a 30.4 per cent year-over-year growth in its revenues for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2018 at $16.91 billion. Facebook also reported a record growth of 61 per cent YoY in its net profit which stood at $6.88 billion in Q4 2018. 

Mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 93 per cent of Facebook’s advertising revenue for the fourth quarter of 2018, up from approximately 89 per cent of advertising revenue in the fourth quarter of 2017. 

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO, Facebook, commented, “Our community and business continue to grow, We have fundamentally changed how we run our company to focus on the biggest social issues, and we are investing more to build new and inspiring ways for people to connect.” 

Daily active users (DAUs) were reported at 1.52 billion on average for December 2018, an increase of 9 per cent YoY. Monthly active users (MAUs) stood at 2.32 billion as of December 31, 2018, an increase of 9 per cent YoY. 

In addition, Facebook estimates that around 2.7 billion people now use Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, or Messenger (comprising its ‘Family’ of services) each month, and more than 2 billion people use at least one of the Family of services every day on average. 

Facebook’s headcount was reported at 35,587 as of December 31, 2018, an increase of 42 per cent YoY.
