Facebook India MD Kirthiga Reddy moves on; returning to the US

Kirthiga Reddy has put in her papers as Managing Director, Facebook India, after a stint of over five years. This development comes just two days after Facebook pulled out Free Basics from India following the ban on Internet providers to charge users different rates for different content.

Reddy wrote in her Facebook post that she would be returning to the US in the next 6 to 12 months. Meanwhile, she is working closely with William Easton and Dan Neary to find her successor at Facebook India. She also mentioned in her post that she would be exploring “new opportunities at Facebook back at Menlo Park”.

“When my family relocated to India, we knew that we would move back to the US some day. It’s a bittersweet moment to share that the return timeframe is coming up in the next 6-12 months,” Reddy wrote in her Facebook post.

Prior to joining Facebook in July 2010, Reddy was VP & GM at Phoenix Technologies for a year. Before that, she was Director, Good India, Motorola Good Technology Group. She had also worked as Director, Product Management, Motorola, Inc; Group Product Manager, Good Technology; Summer Associate, Booz Allen Hamilton; and Director of Engineering at Silicon Graphics Inc.

Writing in her post about her stint with Facebook, Reddy mentioned, “I could not be more excited about where the Facebook business is in India, where we are going and what’s to come. Over the last six years, starting as the first employee for Facebook in India, I have had the privilege to be part of our amazing growth journey – from our operations in Hyderabad to being a business partner for our clients as they build their brands and grow their business in this mobile-first world.”

She added, “I continue to experience the same aha moments as I did in my first few weeks at Facebook – that our mission is so much bigger, the opportunities are so much larger, and each Facebooker is so much more jaw-dropping-inspiring than one thinks possible.”
