Digital India offers a $1 tn business opportunity: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India, sees tremendous possibilities of the Government’s Digital India drive, calling it a $1 trillion business opportunity across IT and IT enabled services, telecom as well as electronics manufacturing.

Speaking at his inaugural address at the three-day FICCI Frames 2016, which got underway in Mumbai yesterday, Prasad added that the Digital India initiative would offer the communication services sector with a business opportunity of $250 billion. A $400 billion business opportunity would be offered to the electronics manufacturing sector, which includes mobile phones, solar panels and so on. He further said that the IT and ITES sector could look forward to a $350 billion business opportunity.

While speaking on the power of Cinema, the Minister noted that Bollywood has a great role to play in promoting soft power of India, and added, “Indian Cinema should strive to become the best in terms of technology and innovation in the world.

Prasad further said that visa processes were being simplified to encourage film shootings. He also informed that a National Centre of Excellence and a new film facilitation office were being set up for the media and entertainment industry.
