Curtains down on Pehredaar Piya Ki; Lot was over-exaggerated: Danish Khan

Following strong criticisms for its controversial story plot, Sony Entertainment Television has pulled the plug on its show ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ roughly a month after the show went on air. Severe flak on social media and an online petition for the show’s closure led the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) to ask Sony to shift the show from 8.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

In an official statement issued, Sony stated, “Effective 28th August 2017, we are pulling off our programme, ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, namely, its crew and cast, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows. We are grateful to all the artists, producers and fans of our shows and request you to graciously support the viewership of our newer ventures.”

The last episode of the show was telecast on the channel on Friday, August 25, at 10.30 pm. While Monday’s episode was not aired on television, it can be viewed on YouTube and SonyLiv.

In an earlier conversation with Adgully, Danish Khan, EVP and Business Head at Sony Entertainment Television, had said, “Digital is a sharp medium which can mold anything. Since the BCCC is a part of the industry, so we cannot raise question on it, but a lot of things about ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ were over-exaggerated.”
