Cannes Lions 2018: FCB India bags India’s 3rd Gold Lion

The penultimate day of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2018 saw FCB India bagging India’s third Gold Lion (the other two Gold winners being McCann Worldgroup India and TBWAIndia). India also won a Silver Lion and 2 Bronze Lions on Day 4.

The Shindoor Khela - No Conditions Apply campaign done for The Times of India fetched FCB India a Gold in the Direct Lions category. The campaign also won a Bronze in Direct Lions.

On winning the Gold Lion, Rohit Ohri, Group Chairman & CEO, FCB India, commented, “This gold Lion win is the first for FCB in India. And a shining testimony to our creative transformation. We have worked hard over the last two years to transform our creative reputation in the market. I am delighted that a few Lions will now walk with us as we continue to push harder and higher.”

Raj Jain, CEO at BCCL said, “The Times of India is a national newspaper and yet every one of its 53 editions addresses local issues like none other.  #NoConditionsApply on Shindoor Khela is an exceptional idea that initiated a conversation on social inclusion of marginalized women into the mainstream. The concept was so hard-hitting and compelling that it has not only been embraced by millions in the Bengali community but also captured attention of the nation. I am not surprised that juries across the world have recognized the effort with accolades, and the Gold at Cannes is yet another recognition of our efforts to make our newspaper live up to our philosophy of “Change begins here”. The TOI’s brand team and FCB, the agency behind this wonderful idea should rightfully be proud of this achievement.”

TBWA India, which had earlier won a Grand Prix for Good and a Gold Lion for its Blink to Speak initiative in the Pharma category, bagged a Silver Lion for the same campaign in the Product Design category.

In the Innovation category, Cheil India took home a Bronze Lion for the Good Vibes Communication Tool for the Deaf and Blind that it had created for Sense International India.

The latest wins take up India’s Lions tally to 17 as of Day 4:

Grand Prix for Good – 1

Gold Lions – 3

Silver Lions – 5

Bronze Lions – 8
