BCCI wraps up Day 1 of e-auction at Rs 4,442 cr; all eyes on today’s bids

The first ever e-auction of media rights in Indian sports is going great guns. BCCI is conducting e-auctions for the media rights for India’s international and domestic matches. The bidding got underway at 2 pm yesterday (April 3, 2018) and concluded at 6 pm with a bid price of Rs 4,442 crore. The e-auction is set to resume today at 11 pm. 

The e-auction commenced with the opening bid of Rs 4,176 crore. The bidding continued beyond the initial period of 30 minutes with the bid at Rs 4,201.20 crore. At 4 pm, the bid was at Rs 4,244.00 crore and at the close of day it had gone up to Rs 4,442 crore. 

The media rights are for a five-year period from April 1, 2018 till March 31, 2023 and include three packages: 

  1. Global Television Rights plus ROW Digital Rights Package.
  2. Indian Subcontinent Digital Rights Package.
  3. Global Consolidated Rights Package.

As reported earlier, Sony Pictures Networks India, Star India and Reliance Industries have been named eligible parties for bidding for all the 3 packages. As per media reports, Facebook, Google and YuppTV, which had also picked up the tender documents, stayed away from bidding for the media rights.
