Amit Chopra to steer Star India's sports strategy!

Amit Chopra who had recently resigned  as CEO of Hindustan has now joined Star India.

In a latest development it is now learnt that STAR who has expanded its presence in sports broadcast, has brought on board media and consumer industry professional Amit Chopra to steer the group's sports strategy. Now Chopra will report to Sanjay Gupta, COO of STAR India and handle the sports telecast business for them. 

Chopra has rich experience in Media and FMCG domains in a career spanning 20 years. Chopra was previously CEO of Hindustan Media Ventures Ltd., where he is credited with creating a successful language publishing business for the group. Before that, he spent 12 years in FMCG in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. in a variety of marketing and sales assignments.

Chopra’s career began  in 1993 with Hindustan Unilever. In 1997, he was made brand manager, culinary at HUL, and three years later   promoted as regional sales manager, food.

During his stint at  HUL as marketing manager, beverages he was responsible for the Brook Bond Tea portfolio. Later came his one year stint at EXL as vice-president, resourcing, following which he moved on to HMVL as marketing manager of Hindustan Times in 2005. In 2007, he was made CEO of the organisation.

Amit Chopra is an Engineer from IIT Kharagpur and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.
