Akshay Hariharan makes his debut as a Music Director with 'Kokanastha'

Son of renowned and talented music composer and singer Hariharan, is now all set to explore his career and the  recently held press conference confirms that  he has already stepped into his new role as a music director . Akshay Hariharan, a graduate from the London School of Economics  is the  elder son of famed singer and music composer Hariharan.  He has  bagged the opportunity as music director in actor and director Mahesh Manjrekar’s upcoming film ‘Kokanastha’.

While in an interaction with the budding music director  he said, “It’s an amazing feeling, as it a great opportunity that I have got and couldn’t ask for anything better than this.” “I am thankful to Mahesh sir for giving me this opportunity and my dad for his support,” added Akshay.

While Akshay himself  is excited about his first project , father Hariharan too is extremely happy for his son . Apart from composing music, Akshay has earlier accompanied his father on several of his shows.

When asked about his father’s role in shaping up his career, he proudly said, “He’s not just my father, he’s a mentor/guide to me. He is superbly talented and it’s always been a learning experience while performing with him. I am here today with the help of my passion for music and my dad’s support.”

With regard to his foray into Bollywood he said , “I am not getting too many offers from Bollywood these days and I am happy in what I am doing at present.”

Sharing his views on Indian classical music he said, “It is the richest music in the world and if we try to observe there are bands  abroad that try and work on our music but in a different form,” he said.

His personal favourites are Ghazals and Electronic music.

On asking about  his ongoing projects, he said, “Soon I’ll be launching a new album which will include  singers like my father Hariharan and some  veteran singers. I am planning to launch it within the next two months.”

The film directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, stars popular  Marathi actors such as  Sachin Khedekar & Sonali Kulkarni among  others. The story revolves around  Ramchandra Govind Gokhale, a man fighting for justice against corruption and against wrong doers of the society The songs composed by Akshay for Kokanastha are a mix of trance, folk and classical music.

The film ‘Konkanastha’ is all set to hit  theatres on 10th May 2013.
