10 years of Star Jalsha

Inspiring imaginations, celebrating life, and nurturing relationships, Star Jalsha, has changed the dynamics of entertainment in Bengal and is celebrating its anniversary of 10 glorious years of changing the very face of entertainment.

The channel, that is now synonymous to Bengali television, was launched on 8th September 2008. Through its gripping story-telling, it's iron willed iconic women characters and endearing narratives, superior production values, glamorous cast and first-time producers; it became a way of life for Bengal at large, loved and lived by all.

The Brand revitalised itself with a refresh campaign in 2012 with the reinforcement of the ‘Chalo Paltai’ tagline and an integrated marketing campaign to drive home Star Jalsha’s progressive storytelling credo.

Star Jalsha lived up to be a harbinger of ‘change’ by delivering breakthrough content both in terms of genres like fantasy (Kiranmala), musicals (Gaane Opaare, Potol Kumar Gaanwala) and mythology (Bhakter Bhagobaan Sri Krishna) as differentiated iconic female characters like Jhilik (Maa), Baahaa (Ishti Kutum), Potol (Potol Kumar Gaanwala), Pakhi (Bojhena Sey Bojhena) and Joba (Ke Apon Ke Por).

In the past decade, Star Jalsha has also revolutionised content-creation trends by introducing male characters who champion the woman or the family’s cause – starting with Aparajito which was ahead of its times in 2011 and more recently with blockbuster characters like Khokha Babu, Bhojo Gobindo and Gopal Bhar.

Star Jalsha has also showcased a differentiated view of the future generations by introducing child characters, like Jhilik, Potol, Rakhi and Gopal who have endeared themselves to our audiences like never- before.

However, Star Jalsha’s truest endeavour to touch the hearts of this generation has been through its storytelling rooted in relationships which has given its viewers hope and shaped their aspirations. Timeless romances like Pakhi and Aranya in Bojhena Shey Bojhena and Anurag and Meghla in Ichche Nodi, touched the diverse heartstrings of Bengal.

Jalsha has also changed the dynamics of entertainment in Bengal mining talents like Yash Dasgupta with Bojhena Shey Bojhena, Mimi Chakraborty in Gaaner Opaare, Sohini Sarkar in Adwitiya who have become leading names in the film industry.

Star Jalsha characters have also often redefined fashion – Bahaa Sarees and Pakhi Salwars being a couple of examples which have become quite the rage during Pujo shopping.

“As we step into the next decade, we promise to create newer dreams and usher fresh stories of change. Our celebrations will be incomplete without our viewers. To add-in to the warm vibes, we will be launching a Music Video that will embody the bond of love and laughter that Star Jalsha shares with the audience of Bengal. The 10-year anthem has been written and composed by Anindya Chatterjee and co-sung by Lopamudra Mitra.” – says Sagnik Ghosh, EVP & Channel Head – Star Jalsha and Jalsha Movies

A series of glorious thematic creative renditions have been developed for 10 years and 8th September 2018 onwards the channel is looking all decked up in the 10Years packaging. Star Jalsha’s iconic characters rallied to impart the campaign message, – “On Star Jalsha’s 10th birthday, it is the viewers who are 10 on10.”

The celebratory vibe of 10 years will be complimented via a 360-degree promotional plan.
