Zee Classic presents 'Classic Debut' of Shah Rukh Khan in 'DEEWANA'

Reinforcing the channel’s core proposition of ‘Woh Zamaana, Kare Deewana’, Zee Classic will showcase the first performance of the Badshah of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan in its ongoing series ‘Classic Debut’.  The undisputed King of Romance recently completed 23 years in the glitzy world of Bollywood with Deewana being his first film and to celebrate it, Zee Classic will air this blockbuster on Saturday, 31st October at 9 PM.

Directed by Raj Kanwar, Deewana also starred beautiful actress Divya Bharti and actor Rishi Kapoor. This film is still remembered today as it gave the industry a superstar in the form of Shah Rukh Khan. A lesser known fact is that the Sunny Deol was offered the film but couldn’t take it up due to date conflicts. It was then that Dharmendra suggested Shah Rukh’s name to the producer and his cousin Guddu Dhanoa as the young actor had already signed a film with Hema Malini! In spite of limited screen presence in the film, Shah Rukh garnered rave reviews for his performance and as they say, the rest is history! The film also boasts of melodious musical numbers including ‘Koi Na Koi Chahiye Pyaar Karne Wala’ and ‘Aisi Deewangi’ that also established Shah Rukh’s iconic romantic pose.

A romantic drama Deewana is the story of beautiful young Kajal (Divya Bharati), who falls in love with a famous pop singer, Ravi (Rishi Kapoor). They marry and are happy, but their dreams are shattered when Ravi's scheming uncle, (Amrish Puri) sends his henchmen to beat Ravi and throw him off a cliff to his certain death. Kajal, a widow lives with Ravi’s mother, and encounters Raja (Shah Rukh Khan), the spoiled son of a rich industrialist.  Raja is completely smitten by the lovely young widow and begins to single-mindedly pursue her until he wins her mother-in-law's approval to marry the reluctant Kajal.
