Rural empowerment at Lakme Fashion Week'13

Day four at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013 turned out to be  a visual delight for lovers of craft and textiles as the day  started off with a show on Indian textiles  and concluded showcasing a glimpse of rural India.

The show was  themed “A Celebration of Rural India” by Vikram Phadnis and the grand event displayed his Swades collection. 70 people, including 30 celebrities walked the ramp, for a  noble cause.  Ashutosh Gowariker, Anurag Basu, Vaibhavi Merchant, Ekta Kapoor, Ram Kapoor, Sakshi Tanwar, Kunal Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Poonam Sinha, Vaibhavi Merchant, Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan, Farah Khan, Rohit Bal, Dia Mirza, Jitendra, Sushant Singh Rajput, Juhi Chawla were some of the celebs from the entertainment industry who participated in this event.
Phadnis partnered with Swades Foundation, an NGO working for the empowerment of rural India, for his fashion show.  He dedicated his line to their cause and his garment collection  had a rural touch.

Speaking about his latest collection Phadnis said,” We celebrate loads of things in India and with my collection I’ve celebrated rural empowerment. Swades taught me a lot of things and maybe in future I’ll try to work more on it.”

Various people from the Swades foundation walked with the celebs in attires inspired by rural India.

Swades is founded by Ronnie Screwvala and Zarina. It is a foundation that operates with the single-minded focus of empowering Rural India.
