India Today Group appoints Sanghamitra Chakraborty as Editor, Reader's Digest India.

The India Today Group announced the appointment of Sanghamitra Chakraborty as the new Editor of Reader’s Digest magazine. Formerly Editorial Director of Prevention and Women’s Health, two of the group’s properties, she has taken over the editorial leadership of the magazine from Mohan Sivanand, who retired on October 09.

Chakraborty joined the India Today group as the founding Editor of Prevention India in 2006. She brings to the table a track record in news and features, both daily and long form, from Outlook magazine, The Times of India and Sunday magazine.

Ashish Bagga, Group CEO at the India Today Group in a media event said, “We are delighted to have Sanghamitra as editor of Reader’s Digest, to power its ride into the future as a bigger and bolder media franchise. Today we live in an age when print publications are in a race with digital properties relying largely on shared and curated content. Also, storytelling is key to the success of any brand, across geographies today. RD has been the best in the world at exactly these since 1922. We feel Sanghamitra is ideally poised to take charge of RD at this juncture.”

Sanghamitra Chakraborty feeling enthusiastic about her new role said, “I feel privileged to be given this opportunity to edit Reader’s Digest. I have big shoes to fill, but I am really excited to take on the challenge of building trust with the large, committed readership, and find ways to connect with the new readers of today.”
