Exclusive | Catering to the progressive mind-sets, FOX Life's Swati Mohan

Known for showcasing differentiated content consistently, Fox Life is all set to launch Tales from the Bush Larder. The very first show of 2015 the show is set to focus on a culinary adventure through Kenya, showcasing all that this wild country has to offer, ranging from its people to food to the Kenyan way of life with Kenyan born and internationally renowned chef, Kiran Jethwa.

FOX Traveller that went global with the re-launch to FOX Life in the year gone by had broadened its array of shows. The channel currently airs some of their popular shows that the viewers love and added many more interesting and fun series to the kitty, from a mouth-watering selection of food from around the world-street gourmet, to fashion, to music, to party, to reality, giving viewers a lot more variety of content.

To know more and get a deeper understanding of the show and the way forward for the channel, Adgully caught up with Swati Mohan, Vice-president, Content & Programming, FOX International Channels.

Speaking about the new show, she said, “Kiran Jethwa has been one of the well-known culinary experts and with his debut into FOX Life family, we are confident that the Indian viewers will appreciate and enjoy Kiran’s wild culinary adventure. With such an innovative show we are all set to kick-start the year and this show takes the concept of food reality to a whole new level.”
The show that is set to premier on 29th January 2015 will be airing every Thursday and Friday at 8:00 PM. The show is shot against breath taking landscapes and each episode explores the source of one of the unusual ingredients that the country is rich in: Nile perch from Lake Turkana, African wild honey and wild fowl, Swahili prawns, Boran beef, Dorobo lamb, Palm Wine, Mud Crabs from the Northern Coast, to name a few.

Interestingly, the show indulges the viewers with not just the food, but the way of life in Kenya, something Kiran has grown up with. Tales from the Bush Larder reiterates their promise to bring more exciting and quality content that showcases travel and food in a sumptuous and exhilarating manner.

One of the biggest reasons behind the success of FOX Life is the right mix of global and local content. Elaborating on the same, she said, “Fox Traveller has had a consistent leadership of two years and though the channel saw a revamp to Fox Life  in June last year, we still stand tall among the competition with the kind of content we showcase. It is heartening to learn of the loyalty that our viewers have showcased over the past few years. The new slate of content for Fox Life has not just helped our viewer base grow, but has enabled many more opportunities for advertisers to leverage and create content.

Through the show Kiran travels across the stunning wild countryside of Kenya to find interesting ingredients, and in turn meets the vibrant people responsible for procuring them. In one of the episodes, Kiran joins a local fisherman to learn how to fish. Using this he then cooks an interesting dish for his new friends in the bush in a way that they have never had.

Apart from the new show, Fox Life is geared up to launching new seasons of their internationally acquired and well-acclaimed shows like Latin Angels, Getaway, David Rocco’s Dolce Vita and Eat Street. Adding further she said, “We also have a new season for Style and the City coming up and something special for the month of February. There will also be a focus towards getting few more locally produced shows.”

If we look back in 2014, the Indian broadcasting industry witnessed a big evolution in terms of consuming content and being a niche lifestyle and entertainment channel, Fox Life is geared to cater to the ever changing needs and demands of its consumers. When asked to specify few trends that she speculates, she said, “There will be a lot of focus on increasing time spent and giving viewers a taste of what they want. At Fox Life we shall be looking at experimenting with a lot more new shows and different formats as I strongly feel that the market is maturing and is ready for it. We shall be looking forward to strengthening our position of being trend setters in the category.”
