Exclusive | Catering to the ever changing need and demand, Motorola's Boni

Motorola, one of the oldest mobile players re-entered the Indian market last year with the launch of Moto G in February which proved to be a game changer in the market. In fact for the past 80 years, the brand has thrived on invention and continues to look for new opportunities to change people’s lives for the better, through the magic of mobility.

Motorola created the mobile communications industry. They invented most of the protocols and technologies that make mobile communications possible, including the first mobile phone, the first base station and pretty much everything else in between.

Moto G was followed by the launch of Moto X (1st Gen) and the Moto E (1st Gen). The company has tied up with Flipkart for exclusive sales and the partnership which is a STRONG step as both the companies are committed to their consumers. In less than a year, Motorola sold over 3 million devices here in India. Across the portfolio, we have launched Moto G, Moto X, Moto E, Nexus 6, Moto 360 and Moto Turbo in India.

Recently, Motorola announced the launch of the Moto E (2nd Gen) and Moto Turbo in India. During the launch of the new Moto E, Adgully caught up with Amit Boni, General Manager, Motorola India who shared insights about the new launches, plans ahead and much more.

Amit Boni who joined Motorola Mobility in early 2010, took charge of the GTM strategy and sales operations for the Asia region of Motorola. He leads the teams across the country and is responsible for the Go-to-Market strategy as well.

Speaking about the new launch, he said, “We’re introducing the next generation product, packed with more features and functionality to give customers around the world even greater access to life’s possibilities - without a hefty price tag. Because we believe access to the mobile internet should be a choice, not a privilege.”

As mentioned above that Motorola re-entered the market last year with a bang and has had back to back launches. Boni mentioned that the year gone by was one of the best years of Motorola. He stated, “The year 2014 was a massive hit for us. From February to December we witnessed the best response from our consumers and registered the best sales numbers.”

With so many players and many more entering the market, Mobile industry in India has grown leaps and bounds in the last few years. Elaborating on the same, Boni said, “India has always been one of the big Mobile markets but from the last few years customers’ expectations have become bigger. The customers’ expectations from the brand have become bigger and year on year there has been globalization of attitude that is making the Mobile industry grow day by day.”

Today, Motorola is combining that pioneering spirit with Google’s vision and commitment to their consumers. That’s why their phones run on Android, the world's most popular operating system. Android brings the openness that shaped the Internet to the mobile world. That’s also why they are the first company to bring smartphone production back to the USA and allow people to customise their own phone design.

Looking at the growing need of the consumers we asked whether the vision and mission of Motorola has also changed, he stated, “At Motorola, corporate responsibility means being a good global citizen. To ensure our stewardship we have principles, policies, practices, and performance measures in place for ourselves and all of our Business Partners.”

The new Moto E helps one connect to the world like never before. Available currently in 3G, the product will soon be introduced at 4G LTE speed in India. And, for the first time, they are bringing personalized software experiences that they introduced with Moto X to our most affordable device.

On asking about further plans and product launches Boni said, “We do not look at a mobile phone as just a mere device but as an experience. With our smart phones we believe in giving a best experience of communication. Motorola exists to invent, build and deliver the best mobile devices on the planet, improving the lives of millions of people.”

“We are constantly making history. 2014 is no exception and 2015 will see a lot of products entering the market. We have been introducing great products throughout our 86 years of history. That’s also why we are dedicated to bringing consumers around the world great value through devices that don’t compromise on quality, experiences or style,” he added further.

Since Motorola has been really cautious about its pricing strategy, the company has successfully carved its place among all set of customers whether smaller markets or metros. They have received encouraging response from all the markets. Motorola Mobility connects people to the mobile Internet with affordable devices that don't compromise on quality, experiences or style.
