Digital India needs to reduce the economic disparity: Sanjay Tripathy

The recommendations made in the Union Budget for 2017-18 earlier this month are being seen as giving a huge boost to the Digital India movement. As remarked by Sanjay Tripathy, Senior EVP - Marketing, Analytics, Digital and E-Commerce, HDFC Life Insurance, “Modi Government’s Budget 2017 has came across as a positive step that primarily focuses on building a digital economy, enabling various aspects that can drive the economy towards higher growth and reduce dependence on cash.”

He further said, “The Government’s focus on widening digital access to untouched groups – both on the business and consumer side – will be taking digitalisation to a next level. Initiatives like BharatNet and Aadhaar app-based PoS terminals are positive steps towards enabling and increasing internet penetration in rural regions. Alongside the whole idea of making cheap credit available to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on the basis of digital transaction records is a great initiative.”

“While the Government is focused on taking digital to the next level with all these initiatives, alongside it is important to focus on increasing overall consumer confidence and awareness, enabling a smoother transition to a cashless economy,” Tripathy added.

He stressed that Digital India should ultimately aid in the reduction of the economic disparity between the working class and the well-off.

Sanjay Tripathy is part of the esteemed Jury panel comprising industry thought leaders for the first ever DIGIXX Awards. DIGIXX is being brought by Adgully in association with ad:tech and will be held during the ad:tech conference at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram on March 9 and 10, 2017.
