ASCI rejects complaint against India TV’s ad for its show ‘Chunav Manch’

The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) recently rejected a complaint against an India TV website advertisement that was headlined ‘Nation watched while Lucknow Buzzed’, wherein the channel claimed that the nation watched its election-focussed programme ‘Chunav Manch’.

The ad was released during the recently concluded Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh’. In its complaint filed, TV Today Network had stated that India TV’s claim about its show was without any supporting data and added that it was not right and was misleading to claim the same.

After viewing the website advertisement, the CCC noted that the advertiser had not made any viewership or leadership claim. The Council remarked, “In context of the advertisement in the backdrop of the elections, the ad headline, ‘Nation watched while Lucknow Buzzed’ is not in contravention of the ASCI Code.” Hence, the complaint was not upheld.
